Prime Minister Theresa May warns alternative risks no deal Brexit

A political declaration on Britain’s future relationship with the European Union is still being negotiated.

At Parliament Theresa May said we continue to negotiate on future relationships to get a good and fair deal that is right for the United Kingdom. May warned that the alternative to a deal would be ‘either more uncertainty, more division, or it could risk no Brexit at all.’

She also said that if a full deal on Britain’s future ties with the EU was not in place by the end of a planned transition period in 2020, there were three options to avoid a hard border in Northern Ireland: a so-called backstop, an extension of the transition or alternative arrangements.

May’s job hangs by a thread today as she was hit by a wave of resignations over her Brexit plan.

Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab and Work and Pensions Secretary Esther McVey both quit in protest at the planned withdrawal agreement – along with three more junior figures.

He said he couldn’t support her Brexit deal because it would give Brussels a “veto” over the UK’s future.

Mr Raab told The Sun: “I don’t want to submit to the blackmail of my country.”

And in his resignation letter, he warned: “I cannot in good conscience support the terms proposed for our deal with the EU.”

But he insisted he has “enduring respect” for Mrs May and praised the PM for fighting through “difficult times”.

He is the second Brexit Secretary to quit in just four months – after David Davis walked out in protest at the PM’s Chequers plans.
