Corbyn scathes May's Brexit deal day before Parliament vote

THERESA May faces calls from leading Conservatives to quit tomorrow after failing to win any Brexit breakthrough in talks with the EU.

Nicky Morgan yesterday became the most senior Tory yet to say the PM must go if she loses the crunch Commons vote. MPs are expected to give her deal a drubbing tomorrow night.

She remains on standby to jet to Brussels at the 11th hour if her team of officials manage to agree any changes to the Withdrawal Agreement.

But despite British and EU officials working through the weekend sources in Brussels said the chances of any last minute progress were “pretty unlikely,” adding: “Nobody is really expecting anything to come of it.”

In a sign of the panic setting in No10, Mrs May has announced a special meeting of her Cabinet on Wednesday morning to discuss the fallout from tomorrow night’s vote…

Theresa May's latest Brexit deal rejected

The latest Brexit deal was defeated in the House of Commons by a vote of 391 to 242. The vote is a blow to British Prime Minister Theresa May and raises more uncertainty about the future of Brexit. May says MPs will get another chance to vote on whether they want to leave the EU without a deal.

Theresa May loses her voice at Brexit debate

THERESA May faces a moment of truth today after finally securing changes to her Brexit deal hours before MPs vote on it.

The PM won last-minute tweaks to the Irish backstop plan which she says will stop Britain being tied to the EU.

But it’s still not clear whether or not the fix will be enough to convince rebel Brexiteers they should support her in tonight’s crunch vote.

This evening the House of Commons will vote for a second time on whether or not to approve Mrs May’s deal.

If she wins, Britain will be on track to leave the EU with a deal in 17 days’ time.

But if the deal falls, MPs are then likely to delay Brexit by up to three months in a further vote scheduled for later this week.

Senior Brexiteers such as Jacob Rees-Mogg and Iain Duncan Smith warned the jury is still out and refused to say how they will vote tonight…

May's Brexit deal defeated by 149 votes

BRITAIN was tonight plunged into chaos once again as MPs voted to kill off Theresa May’s Brexit deal by 391 votes to 242.

Now 993 days after the referendum, and with just 17 days before Brexit, Brits are still in the dark about when or if we will ever leave the EU.

Furious MPs blasted the uncertainty – saying the “wretched soap opera of Brexit continues” as the country heads “back to square one”.

Parliament has repeatedly voted against Mrs May’s strategy for leaving the EU on March 29.

But without a clear alternative on the table, the latest defeat opens the door to a range of wildly different outcomes – from a cliff-edge No Deal to a second referendum which could cancel Brexit entirely.

Tomorrow MPs will vote on whether Britain should quit the EU without a deal in 17 days’ time.

But they are expected to oppose the idea – and will instead back a delay to Brexit in a further vote likely to take place on Thursday.

Tory MP Bob Seely, who voted for the deal, warned that tonight’s result would “prolong the Brexit purgatory” and “grab defeat from the jaws of victory”.

He added: “This entire episode is becoming a shambles that reflects appallingly on this current House of Commons. There are now no good options.”

And Lib Dem Layla Moran, a backer of the pro-EU Best for Britain group, told The Sun: “The Prime Minister has failed the country. Three years on and we’re back to square one. It’s humiliating.”

She said Mrs May should “hang her head in shame” and called for an immediate delay to the Article 50 process…
