Brexit deadlock: May holds talks at Chequers amid coup speculation

For a coup, it certainly seemed short-lived. This morning’s newspapers hailed ministers such as Michael Gove and David Lidington as possible successors. By this afternoon those ministers were offering her public support.

But there is little doubt her leadership is in deep trouble and she held talks with some of her fiercest critics from her Brexiter faction today, to try to seek a way forward.

Brexit: PM May pitches latest EU deal to parliament as deadline looms

British Prime Minister Theresa May was under pressure on Monday to give a date for leaving office as the price to bring Brexit-supporting rebel lawmakers in her party behind her twice-defeated European Union divorce treaty.

At one of the most important junctures for the country in at least a generation, British politics was at fever pitch and, nearly three years since the 2016 EU membership referendum, it was still unclear how, when or if Brexit will ever take place.

Theresa May: No third vote on Brexit deal yet – BBC News

Theresa May has ruled out a third Commons vote on her Brexit deal on Tuesday.

She tells MPs there is not enough support in Parliament at the moment for another meaningful vote, but she continues to have discussions with MPs to see if they can be convinced to vote for the deal.

In her statement to MPs, she says that the EU Council has reiterated again that there “could be no re-opening of the withdrawal agreement”.

The UK has an extension to 11pm on the 12th of April, she says, in the event that no deal is agreed by Parliament.

Any further extension, and the UK will need to take part in elections for the European parliament.

Brexit: Is Theresa May's cabinet about to oust her? | DW News

British Prime Minister Theresa May is coming under fresh pressure over her handling of Brexit. According to media reports, May’s own cabinet is plotting to oust her. While there was little sign of that pressure as May visited church with her husband, she’s reportedly planning a last-ditch attempt to win support among lawmakers for her Brexit deal, which parliament has rejected twice. Adding insult to injury, hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of London and millions of British citizens have signed an online petition to call for a second referendum on Brexit.
